The 2016 Try It and Buy It Promotion was a huge success with over 4,000 Babe Ruth Baseball, Babe Ruth Softball and Cal Ripken Baseball players trying or purchasing a Rawlings batting helmet or bat.
This promotion certainly made dreams come true for two players, Scott Duffy (Douglassville, Pennsylvania) and Thomas Gunter (Dover, New Hampshire), who were both grand prize winners. Each player was treated to a “greet and meet” with a Miami Marlin. The prize package LAO included complimentary transportation, lodging and tickets to the game for each winner and a guest.
Scott and Thomas traveled to Miami this past April, where they stayed at the luxurious Miami Airport Marriott. Both young men were provided with a free shirt and some spending money to use during their trip.
Babe Ruth League Vice President Joe Smiegocki joined Scott, Thomas and their guests during their grand prize excursion, treating them to lunch and accompanying them to Marlins Park for their “Greet and Meet” with player Christian Yelich, and coaches Mike Pagliarulo and Fredi Gonzalez, as well as for the Marlins/Pirates game that followed.
Scott and Thomas were given a tour before stopping on the field during batting practice and pre-game warm-ups. Several Marlins team members signed autographs and posed for pictures.
Rawlings Sporting Goods and Babe Ruth League, Inc. are proud to take an active role in ensuring the safety and well-being of its participants. The main purpose of the 2016 Try It and Buy It program was to stress to all players that quality helmets and the right bat should be an essential part of their equipment bags. When it comes to purchasing equipment, a player’s safety and health should be the major deciding factors.
