Baseball Factory is the official player development partner for Babe Ruth League. They’ve helped hundreds of thousands of players develop their games to the fullest over the past 23 years, becoming varsity starters, all-state athletes, and going on to play baseball in college. In fact, they’ve helped more than 100,000 players earned over $1 Billion in scholarships. And many of these success stories come from Babe Ruth League players.
This month, we’re telling the story of Pavin Smith, a Babe Ruth League and Baseball Factory alum.
A native of Jupiter, Florida, Pavin played his high school ball at Palm Beach Gardens and was named a First-Team All-State selection as a senior. Before that, he was part of a Babe Ruth League team based out of Jupiter, playing in the 2008 Cal Ripken Major 70 World Series and Smith was an instrumental part of that winning team, belting two home runs to help his team defeat Mexico, 5-4 to win the World Championship. He also participated in multiple Baseball Factory training and showcase events to help hone his game before college, including the 2012 Team One Futures Series East event, the 2013 Under Armour Memorial Day Classic and the Under Armour Fall Classic.
As Pavin continued to develop his game, he found himself recruited by the University of Virginia, where he became a key part of the program’s first Baseball National Championship as a freshman in 2015. Pavin batted over .300 in all three seasons with the Cavaliers, posting his best statistical marks as a Junior in average (.342), homers (13), RBI (77) and walks with 38, while only striking out 12 times in 228 at-bats. He wrapped up his final collegiate season named to the 2017 First-Team All-ACC Team at first base.
Smith was selected seventh overall in the 2017 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. In his first professional season with the short-season Hillsboro Hops, Pavin hit .318 in 51 games with 15 doubles, 27 RBI and 27 walks.
For many other collegiate and professional ball players who have gone through the process just like Pavin, it all began at an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout. Over 1,000 Babe Ruth League families worked with the Factory last year alone, participating one of the most unique, hands-on programs in the country. The National Tryout provides players the unique combination of an Advanced Athletic Skills Assessment and the Factory’s unbiased pro-scout Certified Skills evaluation, helping to give both players and parents the most accurate reading of where their son stands today amongst his peers.
When you add in the opportunity for players to be eligible to be selected to compete on a Baseball Factory National Team or participate in a Baseball Factory National Training Program after attending a Tryout, the experience becomes life-changing. From the time you start until the time you graduate, Baseball Factory is your premier resource in finding the right fit to get to the next level both academically and athletically.
It’s no wonder that the three-pronged approach to the National Tryout, Player Development and Recruiting aspect has landed Factory players like Pavin on 100% of Division I & II rosters and 96% of Division III rosters - more than any other organization in the country. Nobody evaluates, develops and places more players into college and professional ball than the Baseball Factory. Your chance begins at an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout!
