LET’S START 2006 OFF ON
THE RIGHT FOOT!
The District Commissioner is one of the
most important positions in Babe Ruth League,
Inc. The District Commissioner is the one
person who has direct contact with the leagues
in his/her district. Because of their hard
work and dedication, the total program continues
to be a success each year. This means more
and more youngsters are enjoying the great
games of baseball and softball.
The 2006 season is upon us and NOW
is the time for each District Commissioner
to work on 100% retention of their existing
leagues. When is the last time you spoke with
your League Presidents? Contact your leagues
NOW.
Make sure we are meeting their priorities
and find out if there are any areas where
we are not properly servicing the league.
Make sure your District is set up to promote
the entire program – Cal Ripken, 13-15,
16-18 and Softball. Start to recruit
new leagues NOW.
Contact the leagues that did not recharter
with us in 2005. Make a personal contact with
any community that is not playing Babe Ruth
Baseball/Softball. A good tool to use when
recruiting is any one of our promotional videos.
We have a separate video for the entire program,
one for Cal Ripken Baseball and one for Babe
Ruth Softball. Remember, Headquarters is here
to assist you. Notify us of any potential
league in your district and we will send them
a special letter and an inquiry kit. Even
if there are communities beyond your District
that are not affiliated with Babe Ruth League,
Inc., make a contact with them.
Babe Ruth League, Inc. is proud of its many
policies that are in effect for the betterment
of the program. Goals are our plans for the
future, and we take pride in setting goals
as a group. We value the opinion of our membership
and base our future actions on a group consensus.
Therefore, this is the reason we continually
survey our membership to seek your advice
and guidance on all future activities.
The importance of the survey is to measure
what matters. It lets us know
which services offered to our leagues are
appreciated and need no further enhancement
and which services require a focus for improvement.
In the near future, Babe Ruth Headquarters
will be sending an important survey to our
Commissioners and League Presidents for their
feedback. It is imperative that we receive
an excellent return as the responses we obtain
from you will determine if there is enough
interest to move forward with the surveyed
subject.
Remember that as we begin the 2006 season,
our primary emphasis is on the local league
and providing the best possible experience
for each individual child. It is our fundamental
belief that every child with a desire to play
baseball or softball be afforded that opportunity.
Affiliation with Babe Ruth League, Inc. provides
your league with essential support to help
make the participant’s baseball or softball
experience positive and rewarding.
In closing this message, I would like to leave
you with a little bit of humor:
A coach called
over one of his players to explain the principles
of sportsmanship.
“We don’t believe in temper
tantrums, screaming at umpires, using bad
language, or sulking when we lose,” he said.
“Do you understand?”
The boy nodded.
“All right then,” said
the coach. “Do you think you can explain
it to your father jumping over there in
the stands?”
Have a great week!
