your league
selecting the right
volunteers,
especially managers
and coaches. It is
the managers and
coaches who spend
the most time
interacting with the
participants.
The purpose of this
letter is to remind
you that the main
responsibility of
your league’s
Manager/Coach
Selection Committee
should be to recruit
the most qualified
adults to serve as
managers and coaches
in your league. This
is a task that
should be carried
out year-round, not
just before or
during the local
league season. The
qualities exhibited
by a manager or
coach should be
those that create
respect from the
players, not only
because s/he might
lead them to a
league championship,
but because s/he
does his or her job
in giving them the
inspiration to
become better
citizens via proper
mental and physical
development. While
background checks
are not specifically
mandated in Babe
Ruth League as it is
the local league’s
responsibility as to
how their volunteers
are selected, the
Manager/Coach
Selection Committee
should take the
necessary steps to
make sure the
coaches selected
meet the guidelines
established by Babe
Ruth League, Inc.
