The City of Williston is nestled in the northwest corner of North Dakota, located 60 miles from the Canadian border and 18 miles from the Montana border. Commonly known as the “Western Star”, Williston is rich in western heritage, as a stopping point during the famed expedition of Lewis and Clark, home of the famous Fort Union Trading Post, and the Home of Teddy Roosevelt.
Williston and all 13,000 of our residents are anxious for your arrival, as they are prepared to show you why Williston and North Dakota are truly some of the “Hidden Treasures” of the United States.
Western North Dakota’s prime focus is the energy industry and agriculture, and upon your visit to our fine state, you will have the opportunity to view a number of oil wells and busy farms producing much of the food we eat every day. In addition, you are likely to see a large variety of wildlife, which makes western North Dakota one of the finest deer and game bird hunting regions in the United States.
Lake Sakakawea, located 16 miles east of Williston is the largest man-made lake in the country, and is regarded as one of the premier walleye fishing lakes in the world. We encourage all visitors to this year’s World Series to take advantage of these “regional wonders”, and you will soon see why we are so proud of our beautiful state!
Ardean Aafedt Stadium is regarded as one of the finest amateur baseball facilities in the United States, and has hosted numerous district, state and regional tournaments in Babe Ruth Baseball. The city of Williston and Ardean Aafedt Stadium previously hosted the 1980 13-15 Babe Ruth World Series, which was a huge success!
Upon entering Aafedt Stadium, you will find a diamond flawlessly manicured and support facilities second to none. You will feel like you are at a professional stadium and will soon see why it is the “Pride of Williston”. After you have the opportunity to experience our event, facilities and community, you will understand why Williston is the “Home of North Dakota Babe Ruth Baseball.”
Aafedt Stadium and the surrounding complex has received nearly $300,000 in improvements as the city of Williston prepares to “roll out the red carpet” and make this World Series one you will never forget. With an adjacent practice field, picnic areas, a community library and the Raymond Family Community Recreation Center right next door, you will find all the recreational opportunities you need at one complex, a tribute to our city fathers and their foresight.
Williston and the surrounding area is excited for the opportunity to host this year’s 13-15 Babe Ruth World Series. With the rugged beauty of the Dakota Badlands, and the rolling hills of the northern plains region, you are sure to enjoy your stay in our fine community. Welcome to Williston, North Dakota – “Where the West Begins”. And remember, you are only a stranger to our fine community once. We look forward to your visit to this year’s premier Babe Ruth World Series!
