Pine Bluff Junior Babe Ruth League, this year’s host of the 2003 Babe Ruth 13-Year-Old World Series, was originally established in 1953 and is celebrating 50 years of quality baseball in the Pine Bluff area.
Pine Bluff is an experienced host of World Series events, having hosted the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-15 World Series in 1972, 1975, 1994, 1998, and the Babe Ruth Softball 12U World Series in 2001.
Located in Southeast Arkansas about 40 miles south of Little Rock, Pine Bluff offers southern hospitality at its finest. Visit our historical museums, the colorful murals of the downtown area, and a variety of restaurants and shopping malls. If recreation is on your agenda while in the Natural State, you won’t have to travel far with golf courses and the Arkansas River just minutes away from Taylor Field.
Taylor Field is the pride of Pine Bluff and a great site for a World Series. The stadium has 2000 covered seats and an additional 1000 bleacher seats. Built in 1940, the stadium has undergone many changes since being the home of two minor league teams, the Judges and later the Locomotives.
The home of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Southeast Arkansas College and four metropolitan school districts, Pine Bluff is recognized as the most popular baseball spot in the state. Sporting over 20 different baseball and softball leagues, the entire community is involved with some type of ball during the summer months, earning its nickname as the Amateur Baseball Capitol of the South.
The 2003 13-Year-Old World Series is dedicated to the memory of Eddie Bryan. Eddie was to have served as “Honorary Host President” of the World Series, but passed away on March 3, 2003.
An avid supporter of Babe Ruth League, Inc., the 60-year-old Bryan was a member of its Advisory Board until his untimely death. He served as Host President of the 1994 and 1998 13-15 World Series in Pine Bluff, and was responsible for bringing the 2001 12U Babe Ruth Softball World Series to the city. Eddie Bryan umpired 16 consecutive Babe Ruth World Series.
Eddie’s presence and love for Babe Ruth League will be felt at this year’s World Series, and any other World Series Pine Bluff may host in the future.
Pine Bluff is a “Sports City” and the entire community is looking forward to your visit to the 2003 Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old World Series.
