In a rematch of last year’s title game, the Alabama Rawdogs (Mobile) took advantage of mistakes by the Columbia Basin River Dogs to win the 2016 Babe Ruth 16-18 World Series 9-2.
Columbia Basin was looking to defend their 2015 title over the Rawdogs, but the River Dogs struggled early, facing an 8-0 deficit after three innings.
River Dogs starting pitcher Kaeden Murphy struggled on the mound, lasting just 2 1/3 innings, giving up eight runs on six hits.
RBI’s by Cole Gardner (3), Leo Gonzalez (1), Dayton Cook (2), Mike Farnell (1) and Bailey Bannon (2) in the championship game helped the Rawdogs to their championship win.
Columbia Basin put its first run on the board in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Glenn Gosse, but left the bases loaded to end the inning. The River Dogs added a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Zach Askin.
Columbia Basin was hurt by a number of miscues in the field. The River Dogs committed five errors which led to two unearned runs for Mobile.
Raw Dogs starting pitcher Will Freeman dominated, throwing a complete game while allowing just two runs on six hits and striking out eight.
