Overview

The City of Williston is nestled in the Northwest Corner of North Dakota, Located 60 miles from the Canadian border and 18 miles from the Montana Border. Williston is commonly known as the “Western Star” and is rich in western heritage. Williston was one of the stopping points during the famed expedition of Lewis & Clark. Williston also is the home of the famous Fort Union Trading Post and the Confluence (where the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers meet).

Williston has a population today of around 30,000 and that increases daily with the Oil Boom in the Bakken Formation, in which Williston is the center of the hub for this historical Oil Boom. The Williston Boys Baseball Committee, Williston Parks & Recreation District, and the residents of our fine community are very anxious for
your arrival. We all are prepared to show you why Williston and North Dakota is truly one of the “hidden treasures” of the United States.

Western North Dakota is experiencing a huge population growth due to the Oil Boom and our main industries are Energy and Agriculture. Upon your visit to our fine state, you will see firsthand the oil boom and all the oil wells, our busy farms that produce a lot of the foods we all eat on a daily basis. In addition to the Energy and Agriculture, Williston and Western North Dakota is an outdoorsman dream. We have a large amount of Wildlife. We boast about the finest deer hunting you will find in the region along with the best game bird hunting regions in the entire United States.

Lake Sakakawea, located 16 miles east of Williston is the largest man-made lake in the country, is regarded as one of the premier walleye fishing lakes in the world. We encourage all of our visitors to this year’s World Series to take advantage of all of our “regional wonders”. You will see why we are so proud to call North Dakota home!

Ardean Aafedt Stadium is regarded as one of the finest amateur baseball facilities in the United States. Built in the early 1950’s, the stadium has hosted numerous district, state, regional and national tournaments in both Babe Ruth Baseball and American Legion Baseball. The Williston Boys Baseball Committee, Williston Parks & Recreation District and the City of Williston previously hosted the 1980, 2003 and 2013 Babe Ruth World Series at Aafedt Stadium. All three of them were a huge success for all our visitors and our community!

Upon entering Aafedt Stadium, you will find a baseball diamond perfectly manicured. The Boys Baseball Committee and Parks & Recreation have taken great pride in keeping the facility updated and ready to host teams from around the country. You will feel like you are in a professional ballpark when you visit Aafedt Stadium. Aafedt Stadium is the “Pride of Williston”.

After you have the opportunity to experience our tournament, facilities, region and community, you will understand why Williston is called the “HOME OF NORTH DAKOTA BABE RUTH BASEBALL”!

Prior to your arrival in Williston, the Williston Boys Baseball andWilliston Parks & Recreation will have put nearly $750,000 in upgrades to the ballpark preparing for the 2013 & 2016 World Series. These improvements are made to help prepare for the tournament of your lifetime, to make you feel welcomed to our community and to “roll out the red carpet” for our baseball friends from around the country!

Our goal is to make this the tournament you and your families will never forget. The best World Series experience possible is coming your way!

In the last 6 years the surrounding areas around Aafedt Stadium have seen huge projects get done. The support ball diamond, Grondahl Field, is a premier ballfield and taken care of just as good as Aafedt Stadium. Next to Grondahl Field is a new six court tennis facility that was upgraded in 2009. Along with the tennis courts sits the LARGEST THEMED PLAYGROUND in the State of North Dakota. This opened in 2010. The next year, a new Splash Pad opened up. Along with sand volleyball courts, restrooms, picnic tables and shelters, this makes the Athletic Complexes one of the best you will ever see. Also next door is the Community Library as well as the Raymond Family Community Center. All within steps of Aafedt Stadium. Bring your entire family to enjoy these great recreational facilities. Thanks to the vision of our city fathers and our park district for the planning of this great complex.

A couple miles to the west of Aafedt Stadium, is the Williston Area Recreation Center! This $75.2 million dollar, 236,000 square foot facility opened April 1, 2014. It is the largest park district owned recreation center in the United States. Be sure to visit the ARC and check out the hitting simulator (same one the LA Dodgers use), or the Flowrider (surfing simulator), along with everything else in this one of a kind recreation center!

Williston and the surround area is excited for this opportunity to host this years’ 13-15 year olds Babe Ruth World Series, with the rugged beauty of the badlands only 40 miles to south and the rolling hills of the northern plains, you are sure to enjoy your stay in our fine community.

Welcome to Williston, North Dakota…Where the West Begins. And remember, you are only a stranger to our fine community once, and we look forward to your visit to this year’s premier Babe Ruth World Series.
