Firmin Simms

Babe Ruth League President/CEO Ron Tellefsen said, "Firmin Simms has served Babe Ruth League, Inc. for more than 40 years.  He is a truly dedicated volunteer and has played a major role in the success of Babe Ruth Baseball on all levels."

During his coaching years for Babe Ruth NORD and Babe Ruth JPRD West, Firmin's team had 29 district championships, 25 state championships, 17 regional championships and 18 World Series appearances with 5 Babe Ruth World Series Championships. 

Another career highlight for Simms occurred in 1978 at the National Sports Festival in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Firmin was selected by Babe Ruth officials to manage their team, which represented the South.  This team won the silver medal.  The four-team inclusion in the Sports Festival was to bring baseball into the Olympic Games.  The sport is now an official Summer Olympics event.

During his remarkable coaching career, which features a 372-87 win-loss record, Firmin Simms has coached many future major league stars, future mayors, doctors, coaches and two clergymen.  This is a homerun in anyone's book.  The list of his future Major League players included Rusty Staub, Will Clark, Barry Butera, Blair Barbier, Ronald Marigny, Tookie Spann, Charlie Borders, Gerald Clessi, Manny Colletti to name a few.
